Spinning Retreat in KC Area! Come spend the weekend spinning luxury fiber with friends. We have two days filled with exploring techniques, sampling over 10 types and kinds of silk and silk blend fiber, yummy treats and a swag bag valued over $100!

Optional Dye Day Add On is available to dye your own silk fiber as well.

Spinning Retreat Details

DATES: Friday - Saturday, February 7-8, 2025

LOCATION: Hampton Inn & Suites South Overland Park, 7521 W 135th St, Overland Park, Kansas

DETAILS: We will be spinning over 10 types of silk and silk blend fibers, discussing hand preparation for working with silk, techniques for spinning 100% silk fibers in various preparations plus how to blend with other fibers, dyeing silk, the stages of silk production and more.

Lunches, snacks & beverages will be provided for both days. There will be an optional PJ spinning party Friday evening. Host hotel will have discounted rooms available or attendees are welcome to head home for the evenings.

PAYMENT OPTIONS: We have 2 options for retreat payments. You can pay in 2 halves or get a discount for payment in full.

Meet Your Instructors

Christine Long Derks

Christine is the owner/creator of Treasure Goddess, luxury hand dyed yarn & fiber all with a yarn pirate theme. She has hosts classes, workshops and an annual Yarn Party at her barn studio outside Spring Hill, Kansas. Her passion is creating luxury hand dyed yarn and spinning fibers. She teaches dyeing, knitting, photography and spinning with an emphasis on textured yarn and art yarn. Christine can be found on ravelry and IG as @treasuregoddess.

Teri Plemel

Teri Plemel is a talented fiber artist who teaches knitting, crocheting and spinning classes around the greater Kansas City area. She also co-hosted an art yarn spinning retreat with Christine Long Derks in 2016. Teri has been sewing and knitting since she was a child. Whether it's spinning, crochet, embroidery, etc. she loves all things fiber. She loves to challenge herself with her crafts, she loves stranded knitting and doesn't shy away from weaving in ends. Meagan Condon

Meagan Condon is an internationally published writer and fiber artist with extensive experience teaching the gentle and not so gentle art of making yarn. She is the technical editor for Ply magazine and her areas of focus are microscopy of fiber, breed studies, plant fibers, natural dyes, digital community, and the science behind textiles. Optional Add On Dye Day

Want to spend a half day dyeing your own silk fiber to spin? We will meet Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Treasure Goddess Barn Studio outside Spring Hill, KS. Dye Day session will include 3 hours of dye instruction and all supplies to dye 2 Four-Ounce braids of silk blend combed top as well as mawata silk hankies.
